The Right to Information (RTI) Act mandates that only private organizations receiving significant government funding are required to comply with RTI requests. This category includes non-governmental organizations (NGOs), schools, and colleges that receive financial aid from the government.

Private Institutions / Colleges, as independent entities, are not directly obligated to provide information under the RTI Act. However, the Central Information Commission (CIC) has clarified that any information that the government has concerned about the regulation and management of private colleges, is subject to the RTI Act. Therefore, while individuals cannot directly request information from private Institutions / Colleges through RTI, they can obtain such information by applying to the appropriate government authority or department (As University of Lucknow) that supervises or registers these colleges.
